The objective of this study was to evaluate the classification method of fleece, also, the precision level of the classifier in the classification of fleeces, based in Peruvian Classification System of Wool by laboratory analysis of samples using Sirolan Laser Scan instrument. The study was conducted at SAIS “Pachacutec“, located in Marcopomacocha District, Yauli Province, Junín Region. One hundred and forty samples of Corriedale sheep were used: 20 rams, 20 ewes, 20 rams hoggets, 20 ewes hoggets, 20 wethers, 20 wethers hoggets and 20 lambs, the shearing took place in the months of February and March 2007. The analysis of samples were carried out at the laboratory of textile fiber, leathers and furs in the Programa de Investigación y Proyección Social en Ovinos y Camélidos Americanos (POCA). A chi-square test was used to estimate the precision level of the classifier and descriptive statistics to evaluate characteristics of fiber. The mean values for fiber diameter was: 26.06 ± 5.84 microns, with a coefficient of variation 22.46%; the average for staple length was: 9.27 ± 0.74 cm, with a coefficient of variation of 8.02%; the wool crimp per centimeter was: 2.44 ± 0.65, with a coefficient of variation of 26.71% and the average percentage for non-fleece was 10.50%. Negative phenotypic correlation was found between: diameter and curvature of the fiber (-0.32), the number of wool crimp per centimeter and diameter of fiber (-0.71), number wool crimp and staple length (-0,044), and diameter and staple length (-0.004), at 5% level was detected, respectively. For rams the analysis showed significance at 5% level and there was not significance for ewes, rams, ewes hoggets, wethers, wethers hoggets and lambs, which means that the precision level of classifier was Bad for rams and Very Good in the rest of the classes
