The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of Ractopamine hydrochloride (RAC) and the level of protein in the diet on the productive response and characteristics of the housing of Guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). 96 Guinea pig male of 49 days of age were distributed in 24 pens. Each pen was an experimental unit with four guinea pigs. The guinea pigs were feeded with six diets with two levels of RAC (0 and 10 ppm) and three levels of protein (17, 18 and 19%) for a period of three weeks. Productive parameters (live weights, weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion intake), characteristics of the housing (fat coverage, housing performance, chemical composition of housing) and the concentration of serum metabolites were determined. This trial design was used a completely randomized arrangement 2x3 factorial. The data were analyzed with the statistical package SAS. The value of alfa was < 0.05 to consider the differences between treatments such as statistically significant. In the present study no effect of addition of RAC or levels of protein in weight gain, feed conversion, carcass fat, carcass yield was evident, however, the level of 19% of protein decreased performance housing is 2.5%. As for the characteristics of the housing No effect RAC addition or protein levels in the protein content of the housing Likewise interface between protein level and RAC for ether extract levels. RAC took effect on ash content decreased by 13.75% the content in diets with the RAC. Information generated on serum biochemistry in guinea pigs is not valid.
