The present professional proficiency work reviews the experiences developed in urban agriculture through the implementation and management of community gardens in the districts of Metropolitan Lima. It describes the procedures for installing urban community gardens that allow the development of social projects. Community gardens are greenproductive spaces, located in public areas, intended for the production of vegetables, medicinal plants and some fruit trees, for family consumption or marketing. In addition, they have an organization made up of neighbors of different ages, mostly older adults and women. The management of community gardens is carried out with an agroecological approach, a set of agricultural practices based on ecological and social principles, which allows a balance between sustainable production and the development of people. This approach is efficiently applicable in this type of small-scale production systems. The technical assistance and support provided at all times during the implementation and capacity-building process, through a plan of training workshops and field visits. The “methodology of learning by doing” is applied, for a greater approach to the population, seeking to rescue and exchange knowledge between the facilitator and participants. The experiences of the existing communal gardens in the districts of Lima Sur have shown us results in: adding to the food security of the population, creating greater participation and social integration, having green and productive spaces supported by the neighborhood community, generating awareness and awareness environmental, promote the strengthening and coordination of organizations. Being a social-productive alternative that provides social, urban and environmental development of the city of Lima.
