In the Peruvian coast, corn tar spot disease (CTSD) is commonly observed and eventually can cause severe grain yield losses. This research work amid to assess the effect of several fungicides on the CTSD control under field conditions and evaluate the reaction of eight commonly used corn varieties to the disease. Two experiments were conducted, the first experiment was installed in the Cañete valley where the following treatments were investigated: tebuconazole 0.1% (T1), tebuconazole 0.1% + carbendazim 0.25% (T2), carbendazim 0.25% (T3), azoxystrobin 0.05% (T4), biostimulant 0.125% + tebuconazole 0.1% (T5 ), triadimenol 0.1% (T6 ), triadimenol 0.1% + 0.25% carbendazim (T7), tebuconazole 0.1% + potassium phosphonate 0.5% (T8), copper sulfate pentahydrate 0.25% (T9) and control (T10); the second experiment was performed in Huaral valley where the response of eight corn hybrids to CTSD were evaluated: PM212 (T1), PM 213 (T2), PMX5 (T3), INTI 8420 (T4), DEKALB DK 7088 (T5), DEKALB DK 1596 (T6), AGRHICOL (T7) and NK STAR 254 (T8). The results of the first experiment shown that fungicides belonging to the azoxystrobin and tebuconazole chemical groups and combinations of fungicides of the tebuconazole and carbendazim group (T1, T2, T4 and T5) were highly effective. These treatments provided effective CTSD control and higher grain yield responses. In the second experiment, the corn hybrids DEKALB 1596 DK, DK 7088 DEKALB and NK STAR 254 showed the lowest disease severity. The highest grain yield was observed on the T1 treatment but it was not statistically different from the other treatments under study except the T7 treatment that showed the lowest grain yield.
