The aim of this research is to evaluate the impact of an exchange rate variation on the Peruvian product during the period of 1995-2016. The present partial dollarization in the national economy, motivated to analyze the transmission channels of a rise in the exchange rate to ward the product, mainly on the side of aggregate demand. The traditional literature indicates that a depreciation of the exchange rate has an expansive effect on the product, this on the side of the trade balance; on the contrary, in recent years emphasis has been placed on non-traditional literature that indicates that a depreciation of the exchange rate is contractive, known as the Balance Sheet Effect. The results obtained through Autoregressive Vector Models indicate that in the Peruvian economy the Marshall-Lerner condition or expansive effect is fulfilled, and also the Balance Sheet Effect or contractive effect is shown; however, at the aggregate level the contractive effect predominates.
