Faced with the uncertainty of whether the building of the National Agricultural Library, located inside the campus of the College National Agrarian La Molina, in the district of La Molina, efficiently withstand a major seismic event, seismic evaluation, based raises in the analysis of the lateral displacements of the building product seismic forces. The reinforced concrete building, 4 levels and a basement, was built between 1965 and 1969 with a structural framed system with little presence of cutting plates, making this a flexible structure; for this reason, it was reinforced in 1989 with plates cut in both directions at all levels, changing the structural system to dual two-way, based on the seismic code 1977 -in force at the time; See Annex 1. According to the evaluation based on Seismic Design Standard E.030 2003 -in force now; see Annex 2 is determined that the building has an irregular structure due to the discontinuity in the slabs of interior floors by having immediate abrupt opening between floors. After making all the calculations we have determined the minimum and maximum lateral displacements based on the 1977 Standard seismic - force in the year that the strengthening structure is made and applying static analysis which specified therein. It has also given minimum and maximum lateral displacements based Seismic Design Standard E.030, 2003, through static and dynamic analysis. Finally these three results have been compared to satisfy the maximum allowable displacement of a structure of this kind, according to the Seismic Design Standard E.030 2003, which has been the most conservative. Thus it was concluded that the lateral displacements top of the building facing the ground shaking product accelerations caused a seismic event, are not within allowable values and a seismic comprehensive study is recommended to determine a possible repair and / or structural reinforcement.
