The purpose of this research is to characterize morphologically 556 samples of native potatoes collected in the Huánuco region, identify the distinctive characters and identify present difficulties when homologizing the morphotypes obtained with previously characterized collections. For this, the first tuber characterization was developed describing the main tuber color, primary color intensity, secondary tuber color, secondary color distribution, general tuber shape, special shapes, eye depth, primary and secondary pulp color, distribution of the secondary color in the pulp and number of eyes in the tuber doing use of descriptors. Subsequently, they were planted in field plots in the locality of Rayancancha district of Yacus - Huanuco to characterize the vegetative and reproductive part of the plant with 16 characters (leaf dissectivity, stem color, wing shape, grade of flowering, shape of corolla, main color and intensity of the flower, secondary color of the flower, distribution of the secondary color, anther color, pistil color, calyx color and pedicel color). With the data obtained from the characterization and statistical analysis of grouping, 337 different morphotypes were obtained. In this collection, 30.26% presented secondary coloration in the pulp, in it 27.45% presented coloration in the wide vascular ring and 34.31% in the vascular ring and medulla. In the homologation analysis, 73 morphotypes (21%) were identified as homologues of a previous collection and 9% of morphotypes as possible homologues. In addition, morphological variables were identified that presented less stability and that contributed to the differences such as leaf dissectivity character, stem color, presence of wings, grade of flowering, flower color intensity and calyx color that are responsible from 32% to 64% of the differences.
