Different gastrointestinal hormones, such as cholecystokinin (CCK), play an important role in regulating satiety in response to the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as linoleic acid. One source of linoleic acid is passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) oil. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of passion fruit oil consumption on eating behavior and to obtain preliminary information about the postprandial concentration of plasma CCK in Holtzman rats. Two experiments were established, the first one to evaluate food consumption during 6 days and for periods of time, after supplementation with the oil under study, and the second one, of one day, to measure the variation of CCK. At the end of the experimental phase, the animals were sacrificed and the results obtained were analyzed under a completely randomized block design, followed by Friedman's and Fisher's tests. CCK data only were described. Administration of passion fruit oil significantly (p < 0,05) reduced food consumption both in the daily cumulative and in the first 30 minutes. However, in the 120 - 150 min period the passion fruit treatment rats had significantly (p < 0,05) higher food consumption. In conclusion, the administration of passion fruit oil reduced the daily and the first time period food consumption. This effect is apparently mediated by CCK
