The aim of the present study was to evaluate the removal efficiencies related to chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total suspended solids (TSS), fecal coliforms (CF) and oils and fats (AyG) of wastewater from a pilot pig farm applying three types of treatments. The T-LOMB treatment involves the presence of worms; the T-HENK treatment, the presence of henkydamas (contains MOB's) and the T-LOMB+HENK treatment, worms plus henkydamas. A weight of 268 grams of worms was used, the weight of each henkydama was 195 grams and a total of 4 units were placed for an exposed active layer area of 0.15m2. An hydraulic load rates (HLR) of 0.01 m3/m2/day was used during Phase 2 and Phase 3. No significant differences in removal efficiency (p>0.05) were found between treatments with respect to the parameters analyzed. Only the effluents from the T-LOMB+HENK treatment complied with the Supreme Decree that approves the Regulation of Maximum Admissible Values (VMA) for non-domestic wastewater discharges in the sanitary sewer system. The T-HENK treatment presented the lowest investment cost, however, it does not allow the generation of humus as a final product.
