In this study, the seeds of sixteen Plukenetia volubilis L. cultivars, from the genetic material of the sacha inchi national collection given for the INIA, total phenolic content, tocopherols, fatty acids, carotenoids, phytosterols, hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidant capacity were analyzed using: FRAP, TEAC and ORAC methods. Results demonstrated of significant statistical differences between the sixteen cultivars and the content of all the compounds studied. Fatty acids, α-linolenic and linoleic acids were found, with average values of 14.6 and 13.3 g/100 g seed, respectively. On the other hand, the γ and σ-tocopherol were the most representative ones with average total values of 64.5 y 37.5 mg/100g seed, respectively. As for phytosterols, β-sitosterol and stigmasterol were the most important ones with average values of 48.8 and 24.2 mg/100 g seed, respectively, and the total carotenoid content reached an average value of 0.08 mg β-carotene/100 g seed. The total phenolic content, reached values between 64.6 y 80 mg AGE/100 g seeds. The antioxidant capacity hydrophilic, lipophilic, and total exhibited for the cultivars by ABTS assay reached values between 1.40 - 3.22 µmol TE/g seed, 7.04 – 12.86 µmol TE/g seed and 8.9 - 14.91 µmol TE/100 g seed respectively. Results of the ORAC assay were found ranges of 5.99, 2.01 and 8.01 µmol TE/g seeds respectively, for the hydrophilic, lipophilic, and total capacity. Finally, the average value found by the FRAP assay was 1.03 µmol TE/g seeds for the hydrophilic capacity. Finally, this study is important because it shows the presence of different bioactive compounds in sacha inchi seeds, which gives them a great potential for using in new food or pharmaceutical products to promote health and welfare, therefore it increases the interest in and importance of the sacha inchi for the food and pharmaceutical industry, but also for consumers.
