The goal of the present study was to determine the digestible protein requirement in juveniles of babunco (G. laevifrons) through the application of the broken line model and the secondorder polynomial regression model, the determination of protein retention efficiency, and the apparent digestibility coefficient (CDA). Four levels of protein were tested 36,6; 39,4; 43,7 and 46,3 % (T37, T40, T43, T46, respectively), through the productive parameters in juveniles of G. laevifrons of 4,9 ± 1,1 g on average. In the second stage, the apparent digestibility coefficient of the protein from the same diets was determined. The productive parameters linked to weight showed significant differences (p <0,05), mainly among treatments T43 and T46 concerning to the others. Better results were found in T43 in parameters such as the specific growth rate in weight, weight increase and food conversion rate. According to the second- order polynomial regression model, the protein requirement of G. laevifrons to maximize weight gain was 41,61 %, while with the broken line model it was 40,64 %. There were no significant differences in the protein CDA values between the diets, which had values between 75,91 and 79,60 %. The highest value of CDA of lipids was reached with the T37 diet with 96,94 % on average and the CDA of energy presented the lowest values between 63,04 and 68,54 %, with no significant differences between treatments.
