The present investigation contributed knowledge of the nutritional and functional benefits of the kiwicha, a grain so valuable, at the same time so old and little consumed especially for the children of our country and for those people who seek alternatives of consumption of healthy and nutritious foods to avoid obesity thanks to its source of dietary fiber. In this research, the chemical composition and bioactive compounds of kiwichas grains were evaluated. The results of the chemical composition showed significant differences in ρ ≤ 0,05 among 30 different accessions of kiwicha. The characteristics of the color space in the CIE L *, a * and b * scale show that L * was between 31,15 to 69,32. The results in the evaluated accessions reveal between 7,50 and 14,12 percent of total dietary fiber; total phenolic compounds between 51,34 and 75,69 mg GAE/100g dry weight (dw); total flavonoids between 12,65 and 36,58 mg CE/100 g dw, betalains between 0,0 to 1,01 mg/100g dw; antioxidant capacity with DPPH between 119,15 to 268,2 μmol TE/100g dw; antioxidant capacity with ABTS between 383,06 to 790,34 μmol TE/100g dw; reducing sugars between 1,60 and 4,51 percent dw, expressed as glucose; amylose 1,77 to 16,74 percent with DMSO and between 0,36 to 16,60 percent with NaOH. In addition, they contain between 53,47 to 63,58 percent starch. Statistical differences were found for all the bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity in all the kiwichas evaluated. When analyzing the dimensions, the greater diameter comprised between 1,37 to 1,60 mm; smaller diameter between 1,21 to 1,44 mm. The statistical correlation analyzes of total phenolic compounds with antioxidant capacity by DPPH and ABTS showed significant correlation coefficients 0,610 and 0,714 respectively. The correlation between the antioxidant capacity with the DPPH and ABTS radical was 0,823. The correlation between the method for quantifying amylose using DMSO and NaOH was 0,883
