The present study examines the effect of Ulva spp density on growth and survival of juvenile scallops grown in system background in Athens beach, Bay Paracas Ica- Peru, between August 7 to October 16, 2011. For that purpose, three pens were installed similar to those used for growing 4m2 background divided into repeating 1m2 for each treatment, each pen was subjected to treatment (T1 = 0 or witness, T2: 10 kg wet weight of Ulva spp / m2 and T3: 20 kg wet weight of Ulva spp / m2), each treatment had a density of 60 scallops individuals/m2, with an average height of 46mm. Every two weeks we conducted a random sampling height with individuals from each treatment were sampled subsequently dry weight and gonad somatic tissue, using a stove. Additionally recorded parameters such as temperature and oxygen bottom in T1 and T3 every 30 minutes throughout the experiment, pH, conductivity and currents were measured at noon in a middle point of the treatments. Chlorophyll a was measured initially at noon, and then a daily log was made for each treatment. The results indicate that the survival, growth in height and weight were affected by the presence of Ulva spp, among the recorded parameters certain difference was found with regard to the oxygen concentration and chlorophyll a, showing greater concentration in the presence of Ulva treatment spp. It was concluded that higher densities of Ulva 20kg spp/m2 affects growth and survival of Argopecten purpuratus, so a removal is recommended.
