Encapsulins are a type of protein cage of great interest due to its great potential for applications in the fields of medicine, chemical engineering and biotechnology. The production, purification and characterization of these nanoparticles are necessary to carry out research and possible technological innovations based on them. The present study aims to obtain encapsulins from Thermotoga maritima with a high degree of purity and on a laboratory scale. The proteins were produced in an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system, purified by means of chromatography and characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The SDS-PAGE analyzes performed confirmed the purity of the encapsulins obtained and the DLS technique showed values very close to the theoretical diameter of the nanoparticle (24 nm). However, the use of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is proposed to verify the results of this research and validate the correct assembly of the encapsulins produced. Finally, the financing granted by CONCYTEC, PROCIENCIA and SENCICO within the framework of the call for Applied Research Projects 2018 – 01 (contract number 119 – 2018) is greatly appreciated.
