The objectives were evaluate the effect of the specie and sex on the physical characteristics of Ch´aku llama fiber and Huacaya alpaca fiber, of a year of age, of the Experimental Center Quimsachata of the INIA-Puno and determine the correlations between the main characteristics. The fiber samples were get from the C E. Quimsachata of the INIA, located in district of Santa Lucia (Puno-Perú); and analyzed in the Laboratory of Textile Fibers, Skins and Leathers of the UNALM. It was used a design completely randomize with factorial adjustment of 2*2 (species and sexes) with 25 repetitions and simple correlation for phenotypical correlations The evaluated characteristics were: fiber diameter (DF), number of crimps (CN), curvature of the crimp (CR), staple length (LM) and fiber length (LF), the fibers of llamas were dehaired. The average values for male llamas, females llamas, males alpacas and females alpacas were; DF 18.32, 17.37, 17.86 and 18.23 ; NR 2.39, 2.46, 2.91 and 2.94 crimp/cm; CR 49.96, 47.66, 54.70 and 54.01 deg/mm; LM 8.81, 8.67, 10.44 and 10.22 cm; LF 8.88, 8.49, 10.52 and 10.09 cm; scoured yield (RL) 90.40, 89.97, 85.80 and 84.97 %; grease content in scoured fiber (CG) 0.25, 0.27, 0.31 and 0.30 %; ash content in scoured fiber (CC) 1.61, 1.56, 1.63 and 1.58 %; vegetal matter present in scoured fiber (MV) 1.75, 1.85, 1.27 and 1.13 %, respectively. It was found highly significant differences only between species in NR, LM, RL, CR and MV; in LF the differences were highly significant between species and significant between sexes; while, in CR it was obtained significant differences only between species. It was found correlations by sexes and average of both sexes, as much in llamas as alpacas; between CR and DF, LF and DF, NR and CR of very low to low and nonsignificant; between DF and NR of moderate to high and significant; between LF and NR of low to moderate nonsignificant. When the llama fibers were dehaired, some physical characteristics of importance in the classification of the fiber for the textile industry improved
