The effect of intake of two sources of saturated fat (SSF) in combination with exercise (Ex) on weight gain, biometric parameters and body indices, serum biochemistry stress oxidative in liver tissue, and adiposity in obese rats was studied. Twenty-four Holtzman male rats, previously induced to obesity, were randomly divided into four groups of 6 rats per group, (T1: Obesogenic diet (OD) + 3.5% cocoa butter (CB) + Sedentary (S); T2: OD + 3.5% of CB + Swimming (SW); T3: OD + 3.5% of Red Palm Oil (RPO) + S; T4: OD + 3.5% of RPO + SW) for 30 days. The results showed that there was no interaction effect between the SSF and Ex factors in any of variables studied, except for thoracic circumference (P <0.05) showing a significant decrease in the T4 group compared with the other groups. A significant increase (P <0.05) in HDL-C blood concentrations and a decrease in adiposity were observed in the groups exercised. CB presented a tendency to increase blood glucose than the RPO (0.05 <P <0.1). In conclusion, there was no significant differences between intake of saturated fat sources studied in combination with exercise on oxidative stress, serum biochemistry and adiposity; however, exercise increased the level of HDL-C and decreased adiposity. In addition, glucose metabolism varies according to the type of saturated fat.
