Agroindustrias San Jacinto S.A.A., a company dedicated to the cultivation, processing and industrialization of sugarcane, has had an Entomological Laboratory since 2003, where the parasitic fly Billaea claripalpis, natural biological controller of Diatraea saccharalis, is reared and produced. Inoculation is carried out on the larval stage of the natural host (D. saccharalis) and since 2014 on its alternative host Galleria mellonella under controlled laboratory conditions. The present research was carried out in the Entomological laboratory of the sugar mill where the life cycle, sex ratio, larviposition period, fecundity and longevity of the fly Billaea claripalpis were studied from the inoculation on its natural host Diatraea saccharalis and its alternative host Galleria mellonella in three generations during the months of July to November 2015, under the following laboratory conditions: 25.16 ± 1.5 °C and 57.14 ± 3.84 % relative humidity. Finalizing the evaluations, the results showed minimal differences in the total days of the total development cycle between both hosts, in addition to the importance of the economic benefit of inoculating the fly on the alternative host Galleria mellonella, thus being the best option for mass production in fly rearing laboratories, being the most economical and simple rearing, i.e. by the infrastructure, equipment and materials needed, as well as their handling, which with an appropriate production schedule can achieve the goals of field release.
