The present investigation analyzed the communication problems that arose among members of the associations of urban farmers affiliated to the Urban Agriculture Platform in Lima (PAUL), as a consequence of the confinements imposed as a result of the pandemic caused by COVID-19. Two surveys were applied to a sample of urban farmers associations, located in North Lima, East Lima, South Lima and Ventanilla. We explored how respondents relate to ICTs in terms of Internet access, the use of electronic devices, the use of digital platforms and how this set of technologies is understood as useful information tools in agriculture. The results obtained indicated that the study population has a fairly acceptable level of knowledge, management and access to ICTs. It was found that 96.1% of urban farmers affiliated to PAUL have some form of access to the Internet. 90.3% of those surveyed have a medium to high level of internet use. At least 94.2% of the associates have a minimum acceptable knowledge of smartphones, electronic tablets and computers. Regarding knowledge and management of digital platforms, urban farmers showed medium to high levels in internet browsers, email, videoconferencing platforms, instant messaging services and social networks; such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Finally, 80.7% of the population has searched for solutions for their orchards on the internet and 84.5% of the sample considers the internet an important tool in the development of urban agriculture. Therefore, it is feasible to use ICTs as agricultural extension tools in urban farmers associations in Metropolitan Lima.
