The following research was conducted in the train operative center of “La Línea 1 del Metro de Lima”, in the district of Villa El Salvador; during the months October, 2013 through July, 2014; and consisted of assessing the availability of wastewater for its treatment and reuse for irrigation of landscape areas. The train operative center has areas intended for landscape purposes that comprise a total of 20,612 m2, of which only 31% is irrigated with potable water. Based on this premise, alternatives to benefit from treated wastewater for irrigation were evaluated. The water demand for irrigation was determined, the quality of wastewater was analyzed through physical, chemical and bacteriological parameters (electrical conductivity, pH, temperature, BOD, COD, total solids, suspended solids, settleable solids, oils and fat, total coliforms and fecal coliforms), the capacity of the sewer systems was determined by the weir and volumetric methods, and the environmental and infrastructure conditions of the train operative center were evaluated. Finally, the availability of wastewater was determined, and the most appropriate technology for treatment and reuse to irrigate landscape areas was chosen. Due to the limited availability of land, we opted for a compact plant of activated sludge with extended aeration.
