This study characterizes and compares the infiltration, understood as the passage of surface water into the soil, in three forms of land use: intervened forest, pasture partially compacted by cattle raising and potatoe crops in agricultural platforms, making use of individual cylinder infiltrater or simple ring method, within the relict natural forest of Japaní, in the Peasant Community of Santiago de Carampoma, Huarochirí, Lima. The information was compiled in the month of August of the year 2016 (dry season). Its objective is to show the benefits of the forest, a formation with dense treetops, exuberant hairiness in the components of its terminal branches, rough logs, deep roots and abundant litter and organic matter, to favor the infiltration and secondary processes of the hydrological cycle in the soil. The individual infiltrator cylinder method was used and the behavior of the infiltration in the forest, the pastureand the platforms was compared in three types of physiographic pendant (high, medium, low); and of altitudinal range (high, medium and low, expressed in meters above sea level). The results showed that the highest values of infiltration occurred in the highest physiographic slopes, with the maximum reached in the intervened forest, followed by the soil partially compacted by the cattle ranch. The physiographic slope, especially the one of 60%, proved to be the most influential factor in infiltration. Altitude only showed a significant effect when acting along with the physiographic slope factor. Soil analysis, leaf litter types of the different forest’s soils and the initial soil moisture, confirmed that the best conditions for infiltration occur in the forest.
