This research work was carried out in the community of Cocharcas located in the Province of Chincheros in the Apurímac region. The main objective of this work identifies and records the use value of the botanical species used by the residents of the community using the methodology of free, semi-structured interviews and ethnobotanical walks where the botanical specimens were collected. The data obtained made it possible to identify and know the plants with the greatest cultural importance for the community using the Phillips and Gentry (1993a) use value index. Likewise, informative tables were generated with the scientific names of the species, as well as the forms of use among other data. As a result of this work, 103 botanical species grouped into 44 families and 94 genera were identified. The family with the most reports of use was Asteraceae followed by Fabaceae and Poaceae. The identified species were grouped into nine use categories, with the Medicinal category reporting the highest use (52 species), followed by Alimentary (45 species) and Social (26 species). Based on the use value index, the most important species for the community were Schinus molle “molle”, Escallonia resinosa “chachas”, Clinopodium brevicalyx “salja muña” and Escallonia pendula “pampana pauca”. Therefore, it is concluded that the inhabitants of Cocharcas make use of and preserve the traditional knowledge of their plant resources.
