In this investigation is was evaluated if the relation between Relative Abundance at Space (IARE) and the Real density (DR) is linear in bird populations of economic importance for the Region Grau, using as examples to Forpus coe/estis, Columbina cruziana and Mimus /ongicaudatus. In addition the conditlons in which this linearity is altered and consequences derived from it were also evaluated. At extensiva leve! the evaluation surrounded the ex-Forest Districts of Tumbes and Sullana in Tumbes and Piura departments respectively and to intensiva leve! was realized in a sector of “Coto de Caza El Angolo“, province from Sullana. The relativa abundance was estimated by means of lAREs, whose unit were “number of individuals for kilometer run“ and “number of individuals for one hundred meters run“ at extensiva and intensiva •levels, respectively. 8oth levels showed a wide spectrum, being manifest a scarcity of tracts with high relative abundance of individuals and a greater quantity of tracts with low relative abundance, enclosure there are spaces with nobody individuals. The DR was estimated by means of .Fourier series, with cutting off distances from fifty meters for extensiva evaluation and thirty meters for intensiva evaluation. Also distribution histograms of the individuals in relation in relation to transect line allowed verlfy the supposed of Fourier method in which observation probabilities from an individual are maximum over the transect line disminishing in agreement with an increase of the distance. No variances were verify for this estimates, because they no ~ere using to estímate total density of the study zone for that it was no necessary to hare confidence intervals. In the analysis of the relationships that exist between Relativa Abundance and Real Density it was used simple linear regression using as dependent variable to the Relative Abundance and like independent variable to Real Density, chose according to Model l. The significance of correlation was evaluated by means of its correlation coeficient contrasting with a signification square (Steel and Torrie, 1985). The results, suggest for these conditions the Relativa Abundance is a good estimated of Real Oensity. However, it was founded that exist no linear models with describe of better mamer the relationship OR-lARE than a linear model, determining points (IARE or OR) from which it would hare special care for eliminating the existence of the linear relations, in both extensiva and intensiva levels, in the measure that the use of a linear model it will implicate an over or sub estimation of the density. In general, for low densities conditions the elation OR-lARE was linear, in change for high densities appear the possibility of that no linear models describe better the mentioned relation, generating from this manner over and sub estimation problems. This oblígate to what for over to these limits, before use the IARE like as indicator of OR, it necessary to verify with experimentation the linearity of OR-lARE relationship.
