The objective of this research was to characterize cow production systems to propose alternatives of livestock development in the district and province of Oxapampa, Pasco Region. The research was represented by a sample of 70 cattle producers, who were interviewed through questions on social aspects of the system (family components, the activity of each member in the productive system), system components (forage resources, and number of animal raised by family), husbandry technology and the interaction of the components of the productive system. It also included inputs, outputs, limitations and expectations of cattle production and their relationship with other livestock species. Data were processed using Excel and analyzed by statistical descriptive technique. Results revealed that average age of farmers were mainly between 41 and 60 years, with a family load of 1 to 3 children, instruction degree mainly between elementary and high school, and devotion time between 10 to 30 years. Regarding the components of the system, the vast majority of farmers carry out their activities on their own land, mainly for agriculture, pasture and forestry. The prevalent extension was between 1 to 20 hectares for agricultural and livestock use. In the aspect of the interaction of the components of the cattle raising system; pastures installation is done in January and February, being the most common through cuttings. The majority of the pastures are between 1 to 20 years, usually with no fertilization, scarce maintenance and 1,02 AU / ha supportability. In cultivated pastures, grasses prevailed. The vast majority of producers raise their cattle in the extensive system, a grazing. Males and females stayed together the whole year, with only a small percentage of animals being inseminated. The plan is based on four components: 1. genetic improvement of animals; 2. feeding with associated pulses legumes with grasses; 3. prevention and control of diseases according to the sanitary calendar; 4. organization and formalization of the producers. The estimated investment for each component is S /. 528,862; 1 017,293; 131,620 and 11,401; respectively; the total investment being S /. 2 168 625,6. The economic indicators of profitability were VANE of S /. + 1 148 709,63; a TIRE of 15,72% and a B / C ratio of S /. 1,46.
