This paper describes the work done in the institution Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Pesquero, for the la Dirección General de Capacitación y Desarrollo Técnico en Acuicultura; specifically in the Nuevo Horizonte Aquaculture Center (CANH), located at kilometer 38.8 of the road Iquitos - Nauta, Caserío Nuevo Horizonte, in the district of San Juan Bautista, province of Maynas, Loreto region, where the position of "professional III" was exercised. These tasks include work carried out in the CANH, precisely in the cultivation of gamitana for the reproduction and frying phase; as well as field work, which explains the implementation of technical assistance to fish farmers located in the Eje Vial Iquitos - Nauta (ECIN), being the gamitana one of the main species cultivated. Although most of the fish farmers assisted were reluctant to adapt to the new technologies and procedures for the cultivation of gamitana, the criteria and means applied in each visit were vital, with the purpose of initiating a close relationship with each one of them and being able to provide the corresponding technology for cultivation. These tasks are thematic fields of the professional career of fisheries engineering that were put into practice during work time. Some of the limitations that arose in the development of this activity were: the lack of knowledge on the part of the fish farmer, the limited management of the species and the lack of dissemination of technology transfer and research. Consequently, the challenge as a professional in the specialty of aquaculture consisted of making gamitana fish farming extensive and, along the way, contributing knowledge to improve this crop.
