The study took part from august to november 2018 in the Guayabo 1 field at the National Agricultural University La Molina (UNALM) in a slightly alkaline soil, with low organic matter content and the irrigation system was by gravity. The study aims to evaluate the performance of eight F9 lines of the Rondo x Remate cross and select promising lines for their plant, fruit and grain characteristics. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used with ten treatments and three repetitions. The dry grain yield, the days at physiological maturity, the plant height, the number of knots, the number of knots in which the first sheath appears, the sheath width, the sheath length, the number of locules per sheath, the number of grains per sheath, the number of pods per plant, the weight of 100 seeds, the grain color, the surface of the seed coat and the hilum color were evaluated. The results indicated that the L3, L4, L5 and L8 lines demonstrated higher dry grain yields, from 1.7 to 1.8 t/ha being higher than the national yield of 1.1 t/ha. The lines selected as promising by sheath length, sheath width, pods per plant, grains per sheath, grain weight and optimal qualitative grain quality characteristics were L3, L4, L5 and L8.
