In order to identify promising full-sib families (FSF) with high anthocyanin content and good cob yield, 256 purple corn genotypes: 242 FSF, 13 populations and the PMV-581 variety from which the FSF were derived, were evaluated in La Molina under a 16x16 simple lattice design. The variable that were studied were: cob yield (REND), percentage of cobs with black grains (MZGN), percentage of dark purple crowns (COMO), cobs per plant (MZxP), grains per cob (GxMZ), plant height (ALTP), and stem diameter (DT). The results showed that five FSF had ear yields that ranged between 11.39 and 12.61 t/ha and statistically surpassed the control PMV-581, which had a yield of 7.99 t / ha. Out of a total of 242 FSF evaluated, 54.1% (131 FSF) surpassed the control. Regarding the variables MZGN and COMO, there were no FSF that statistically surpassed control PMV-581, which obtained a value of 98.88% and 83.29%, for MZGN and COMO, respectively. However, 75 FSF and 78 FSF surpassed the control in both characteristics. Based on grain color, 31 FSF was discarded because it had at least one cob with orange grains and white crown. Similarly, 11 more FSF were eliminated for presenting the lowest cob yields. Finally, 200 full-sib families were selected whose seeds will be recombined to obtain an improved variety from the first selection cycle.
