Due to the existence of several methods to estimate the carrying capacity in vicuñas, the indicators to discern under which conditions to use them. In addition, the method is known to have the greatest reach and low cost with vicuña conservation goals in the rural scarce resources communities because they handle 75.5% of the vicuña national population. Therefore, a study was carried out in the Conocancha Production Unit - SAIS Pachacútec in Junín and in the San Antonio de Rancas communal enclosure in Pasco, in order to evaluate three methods to estimate the carrying capacity of vicuñas. The range condition method was treated as a reference while the utilization ratio method and the nutritional method as experimental treatments. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used for the experiment assessment. It was concluded that the range condition method remained the best option because of the lower cost of 472.24 ha for each of the inverted 1000 soles) and greater extension (3.09 pasture sites for each of the inverted 1000 soles) (C.V. = 31.48%) with respect to the other methods and the lower restrictions on the availability of materials and equipment. The utilization ratio method had high variability (C.V. = 54.26%) and lower precision (D.E. = 0.87 UV / ha / year), which discarded its use. The results obtained from the nutritional method were significantly different from the others (p <0.05) in both areas of study with higher accuracy in the data (D.E. = 0.39 UV / ha / year). However, its cost-efficiency was lower relatively.
