The present research aims to identify patterns of behavior through the design and application of an economic experiment for the better management of natural resources with rivalrous and non-excludable characteristics. This experiment represents an evolution respect to the traditional experimental methods applied to natural resources because it contains ecological and economic considerations. The experiment was applied to two native communities of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, the “20 de Enero“ Community and the “Leoncio Prado“ Community, which they have similar social, cultural and economic characteristics but are different in terms of governance. To measure the level of governance of each community, a qualitative indicator was constructed based on eight Ostrom's principles. The results of the research show that the level of government of each community is related to the decisions of extraction and conservation of the resource over time. In addition, it is verified that the best strategy for the “20 de Enero“ Community is the co-government, which have been implemented for some years with the support of the headquarters and the park ranger staff of SERNANP. Internal decisions made by members of the community are reinforced by cooperation, friendship and confidence. On the other hand, the best strategy for the “Leoncio Prado“ Community is the hierarchical governance with the involvement of some private actors in their management and the supervision of the conservation agreements they have with SERNANP according to the management plans. The internal decisions made by the members of this community are strengthened when an independent actor takes control of the management groups on the amount of resource´s extraction
