The present research was carried out to evaluate the effect of using different doses of a biostimulant based on seaweed extract (Ascophyllum nodosum) on the growth of coffee seedlings (Coffea arabica) cv. Cuscatleco, in nursery conditions in La Molina, Peru. A completely randomized design with four treatments and 26 replications was used. The treatments were as follows: T1: control, T2: plants with Algax 5 ml/l, T3: plants with Algax 7.5 ml/l and T4: plants with Algax 10 ml/l. Four applications of the extract were made at an interval of 15 days. The following parameters were evaluated: height, diameter, root length, number of leaves, dry weight (leaves, stem, roots), aerial part/root dry weight ratio (A/R), hardiness index (IR), Dickson's quality index, and percentage of nitrogen, phosphorus and total potassium. The effect of the use of different doses of Ascophyllum nodosum was evident on the growth of coffee cv. Cuscatleco under nursery conditions. For the parameters: plant height, root length, dry weight of leaves and stems, dry weight ratio of aerial part/root, and percentage of phosphorus, significant statistical differences were found in the treatment with a dose of 10 ml/l of Algax (T4). While for the parameters: stem diameter, number of leaves, root dry weight, robustness index, Dickson's quality index, and percentage of nitrogen and potassium, no significant statistical differences were found between treatments. However, there was a tendency for all the values of the parameters evaluated to increase as the doses of Ascophyllum nodosum were increased.
