In this research, the amount of sediment transferred was estimated by the flows of a typical average year, for a tropical coastal pacific basin, involving variables of the sedimentology and the geomorphology of the place. For the modeling of changes in the riverbed, the sediment module of the HEC-RAS software was used. While it is true that there is no single methodology or standard procedure for this analysis, knowing the limitations of the equations included in the software, which apply for certain ranges of granulometries, the equation that best fits the characteristics of the river was used. The predominant sands obtained in the field samples constitute an important value judgment when estimating and characterizing the model. This research works is a preliminary tool for future development and research in coastal tropical rivers, the predominantly dry plain most of the year, where the annual amount of sediment transport occurs 6 percent of the time. It should be noted that, any development of marine projects in this type of rivers, should take into account the sedimentary transport regime, to estimate the conditions of depth and navigability.
