Little is known about how bushmeat markets operate in the Peruvian Amazon and the influence they have on levels of extraction for food and commercial purposes. The objective of the research is to analyze the commercialization of bushmeat in two main markets of the city of Pucallpa and its relationship with the extraction, trade and use in three native communities of the Ucayali River near the city in order to know the influence of the local market on the hunting of wildlife in these communities. It analyzes how the price of bushmeat is related to the intensity of hunting in native communities and to the demand for bushmeat. In the markets, bushmeat adopts supply and demand mechanisms, self-regulating. However, in the urban sector, much of the bushmeat that arrives in the city is sold outside formal markets, which does not guarantee efficient use. The research confirms that the extraction, trade and use of bushmeat in the native communities of the Ucayali River near the city of Pucallpa are related to the commercialization of the resource in the city. It is recommended to promote the legal sale of bushmeat of managed species in formal markets so that it can be subject to greater control, and to allow prices to achieve a sustainable equilibrium level in the extraction and sale of bushmeat.
