This research was carried out in the Tanon farm, dictrict and province of San Miguel, Cajamarca department; gravity irrigation efficiency was estimated for the cultivation of tara (Caesalpinia spinosa) in a study area of approximately seven hectares. The application was made by furrows that have different length, for this reason the analysis was divided into four sectors, according to the average length of each of them. The crop is arranged in a planting frame of, approximately, 5 m x 5 m and each tree have, around the trunk, a small pool in the contour grooves. The irrigation sheet was calculated based on the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) estimated by the Hargreaves method, the crop Kc, the water and physical parameters of the soil obtained from field tests. The current efficiencies of the farm were determined: conduction (90,00 percent), distribution (98,07 percent) and application (27,40 percent), and the irrigation efficiency of the system was 24,21 percent. Due to the low efficiency of the system, improvements were proposed: an adequate irrigation schedule for soil and plant conditions in the farm, the installation of water valves every 20 m in the distribution pipeline for the proper management of each furrow in contour, the implementation of drip irrigation in order to increase the efficiency of application and finally, the installation of air valves along the conduction pipeline for the elimination of the air present in there.
