Long-chain fatty acids, among which polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) stand out, can generate changes in the intake and secretion of satiety factors such as cholecystokinin (CCK), which could help with the control of overweight and obesity. Peruvian biodiversity offers vegetable oils rich in PUFA, such as sacha inchi oil (Plukenetia volubilis). The present work aims to evaluate the effect of the consumption of sacha inchi oil, rich in alpha-linolenic acid, on feeding behavior in Holtzman rats, and to carry out a preliminary test of its posible effect on plasma CCK concentration. To evaluate the behavior, 30 male rats distributed in three treatments were used: water, coconut oil and sacha inchi oil. After acclimatization, food consumption was monitored for six days. Data were analyzed under a randomized complete block design using Friedman's nonparametric test and Fisher's LSD test. In thepreliminary test for the measurement of CCK, 34 animals distributed in four treatment groups were used: water, coconut oil, α-linolenic acid and sacha inchi oil. The animals received the assigned treatment and were sacrificed for blood extraction and subsequent detection of plasma CCK. It was determined that sacha inchi oil affected food consumption during the first 30 minutes after supplementation, this being significantly lower (p <0.05) than the volumetric control. Sacha inchi oil also affected the total daily food intake, significantly reducing it (p <0.01) compared to the volumetric and isocaloric controls, while there were indications of a concomitant increase in CCK concentration. It is concluded that sacha inchi oil reduces food intake, apparently by a mechanism mediated by CCK.
