In the present study, the alternative of lower cost and less negative environmental impact to the environment has been determined, from the comparative analysis between the flexible pavement design alternatives to rigid urban pavements for the roads inside the UNALM campus, during the construction, operation and maintenance stages, in a period of analysis of 20 years. For the analysis, the design of new pavements was proposed in the campus lanes, since at present the existing pavements register faults at the surface level in different sections of roads, without having developed pavement conservation works, for which they have already fulfilled its life cycle. Then, the design thicknesses of the structural layers that make up each type of pavement (flexible and rigid) were calculated by applying the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) method, and then proceeding to cost analysis during the construction process, operation and maintenance of both structures. In addition, the study of the environmental impact by action of the variation of temperatures on the surfaces of pavements was developed, to continue with the environmental impact assessment (EIA) by means of the Leopold's Matrix method and to identify the possible significant impacts during the works of construction, operation and maintenance in the execution of the two paving alternatives in the roads of the study area. In order to determine the best alternative design of pavements with more “friendly“ materials to the environment.
