The objective of this study was to evaluate the watermelon (Citrullus lanatus Thunb.) production cv. 'Santa Amelia' in Ica in response to plastic mulch of different colors with or without thermal blanket. Treatments evaluated were black mulch (N), white mulch (B), transparent mulch (T), black mulch plus thermal blanket (NM), white mulch plus thermal blanket (BM), transparent mulch plus thermal blanket (TM), thermal blanket (M), control (TES). A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used, with four blocks. The results showed that the highest performances with significant differences were obtained with mulch treatments and mulches in combination with thermal blanket: NM, B, TM and N with 81.37, 75.95, 74.53 and 74.45 Tn/ha respectively, well above the TES with 45.27 Tn/ha. Regarding precocity the N treatment produced 34.75 percent at first harvest, similar to other treatments with mulches and mulches in combination with thermal blanket which in turn were higher and significantly different to M and TES with 17.38 and 5.1 percent. Regarding fruit length/width relationship, the highest significant values were obtained in NM, BM, TM with 1.36, 1.34 and 1.31 respectively.
