Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most extensively cultivated pulse worldwide, and it is very important for low-income population. Studying more about its performance under organic agriculture can be considered a priority. A field experiment was set up in the experimental station of the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) located in the district of La Molina, Lima. The objective was to evaluate the effect of application of four organic matter sources (cow manure, vermicompost, fast biol and seabird guano), and two seeding systems (shovel and “rattle”) on grain yield and seed quality of common bean var. “Blanco Molinero” under no tillage and drip irrigation. A complete randomized block design with factorial arrangement of two seeding systems and four organic matter sources and one treatment without application, with four replicates, was used. Performance variables and their components were evaluated. The means were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range mean comparison test. The application of organic matter resulted in highly significant differences for grain yield, with cow manure resulting in the highest yield, followed by fast biol and seabird guano, with vermicompost and control fertilization being of lower yield. The seeding system did not affect grain yield; nevertheless, the use of rattle showed to be more efficient than using a shovel, requiring half of the time than the latter, (5 and 10 working days/ha, respectively). This could be also result in a higher crop profitability with the use of rattle. It is concluded that sowing with a rattle is less costly and increases profitability.
