The professional experience as a commercial technical executive specialized in piglet pre- starter feeds consisted of conducting experimental tests to launch a Profeed brand pre-starter on the market and evaluating the use of the antimicrobial peptide Citrocin in replacement of colistin sulfate. Tests were carried out in the facilities of the “Unidad Experimental de Cerdos“ of the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina and in commercial farms that manifested sanitary challenges such as PRRS+ and mortality problems in the first weeks. Results indicate that the Profeed pre-starter feed was competitive against a pre-starter feed of a competitive brand since the weights and daily weight gain were higher when the Profeed pre-starter was used in commercial farms. Therefore, a lower cost per kilogram of piglet produced was obtained. On the other hand, the antimicrobial peptide Citrocin was able to replace the colistin sulfate as a growth promoter in pre-starter feeds since no significant differences were observed in weights and daily weight gain between the two growth promoters. Also, a lower feed consumption and better feed conversion was observed in the group of piglets that received the Profeed pre-starter with Citrocin. In commercial farms, it was observed that the use of the Profeed pre-starter with Citrocin yielded better results in terms of weight and daily weight gain than a Control feed which resulted in a lower cost per kilogram of piglet. Based on the results obtained, the use of Citrocin is recommended as a growth promoter to replace colistin sulfate in piglet pre-starter diets.
