In the present investigation, the oceanographic and atmospheric conditions were analyzed in each of the decadays of the month of february 2021, related to the reduction of rainfall in the Andean and Amazonian zone of the departments of Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Cajamarca and Amazonas, located in northwestern Peru, causing a decrease in the flow of rivers in the Chira, Chancay-Lambayeque, Jequetepeque and Chicama hydrographic basins. To do this, the records of rainfall and flows from different meteorological and hydrological stations that are part of the SENAMHI monitoring network, distributed in the northwest of the country, were collected with the purpose of evaluating the frequency and intensity of rainfall and characterizing the dry event by calculating the Normal Precipitation Index (IPN) and the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI); In addition, the temporal variation of the water flow was visualized through a cross section at each representative measurement point of the basins. Additionally, climate information from ERA5 reanalysis and high-resolution sea surface temperature data from NOAA OI SST V2 were collected during the study period, to determine the relationship of changes in the ocean and atmosphere that contributed to the decline of rainfall over the monitoring area.
