This research is focused on the analysis of vehicular traffic, geometric characteristics, control devices, congestion of the intersections along the national highway 3S in the section “Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe“ and Intersection “El Arco“ and its alternatives of improvement, located in the city of Abancay. For the analysis of the changes, previously determined demand will be used for vehicular vehicles of all intersections, as well as the geometric conditions will be determined by means of a topographic survey, an inventory of the traffic signs found in the National highway 3S in the section “Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe” and intersection “El Arco” and its improvement alternatives, located in the city of Abancay, finally the operation of the traffic lights automatically in the research area. With the selected data, the calculation of capacity and service levels can be performed using the HCM 2010 methodology, as well as the determination of service levels by simulating “VISSIM 11”. With the results that are processed to the simulation of different scenarios for the optimization of the geometry of intersections, control devices and vehicular traffic and subsequent levels of services, which include restrictions on access restrictions for heavy vehicles, movements to little used auxiliary routes, exclusive exit lanes to the avoidance route. In conclusion, currently the demand for vehicles exceeds the capacity at the intersections “Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe“, “Mercado“, “Óvalo el Olivo“, “El Arco“ for which the implementation of strategies for geometric improvement is recommended, vehicular traffic and control devices to improve service levels.
