The objective of this research is to estimate the influence of socioeconomic and demographic variables on the choice of Liquefied Petroleum gas-LPG as the main fuel for cooking at homes in Peru. For this purpose, I use a nested logit model because the multinomial discrete choice variable can be used through a conditional probability function that relaxes the assumption of independence of irrelevant alternatives. The results show statistical evidence in relation to the influence of the educational level of the head of the household, the geographical area in which the household lives and the level of household income. The research obtains the same results as the other studies and the theory of energy stacking. It is concluded that an academic progress allows to internalize the health effects of using traditional fuels. Likewise, the unavailability of a varied offer in rural areas generates a negative effect on the continuous use of GLP. Finally, the results also show that the economic capacity of the home plays an important role by allowing fuel to be purchased continuously and making the necessary investments for the use of LPG (kitchen, balloon, among others). The complementarity of these factors in the design of programs to promote the use of LPG in the country will help to achieve effective migration towards the prioritization of the use of this fuel to meet the energy requirements at home.
