Abstract: El presente trabajo desarrolla un ejemplo de estrategia de cobertura de activos eléctricos con contratos forwards de largo plazo en el Perú. Este estudio cuenta con tres secciones: En primer lugar se presenta la definición de gestión de riesgos y la relevancia de los riesgos de mercado, crédito y liquidez en el ámbito del mercado eléctrico. En segundo lugar, el funcionamiento del precio spot en el mercado peruano y el análisis de orden de mérito que explica la teoría marginalista que genera el precio spot y finalmente se presenta un caso ejemplo de cobertura para un activo hidráulico a partir de un enfoque backward looking donde se genera niveles de cobertura ficticios con contratos forward o PPAs para demostrar la eficiencia de la estrategia para reducir la volatilidad de los ingresos del portafolio. El trabajo concluye que, para un activo hidráulico de pasada, niveles de cobertura entre 15% a 45% de su generación esperada terminan reduciendo la volatilidad de sus ingresos comparando con el caso que dependan sus ingresos 100% al precio spot, pero que a niveles de cobertura más altos como 90% implica agregar riesgo al portafolio generando mayor volatilidad en los ingresos.
This work develops an example of a hedging strategy for electric assets through longterm forward contracts in Peru. The document is divided into three sections: firstly, it introduces the definition of risk management and the significance of market, credit, and liquidity risks in the electric market. Secondly, it examines the operation of the spot Price in the Peruvian market with an analysis of the merit order, explaining the marginalist theory that determines the spot price. Finally, a case example of hedging for a hydraulic asset is presented using a backward-looking approach, where fictitious coverage levels are generated with forward contracts or PPAs to demonstrate the strategy's efficiency in reducing portfolio income volatility. The study concludes that for a run-of-river hydraulic asset, coverage levels between 15% and 45% of expected generation end up reducing income volatility compared to receiving 100% spot price income. However, higher coverage levels, such as 90%, imply adding risk to the portfolio, leading to greater income volatility.
