Objective: to assess the level of knowledge and practice on the disposal of unused and expired medications in households in the AA. HH. Rodrigo Franco - Santiago de Surco, Lima-Peru, october 2021. Material and method: descriptive qualitative approach, the survey technique was used through a 25-question questionnaire. The sample was made up of 208 residents. Results: of the 208 respondents, 48.1% and 36.6% had knowledge about the proper disposal of liquid and solid medications, respectively. However, 66.3% understood the negative consequences of improper disposal of medicines. In addition, 43.2% recognized that children are more vulnerable to the risk of intoxication from medicine waste. Abandonment of treatment due to early health improvement was identified as the main cause of medicine wastage, with 59.6%. Additionally, 53.8% were found to keep unused medicines until they expired, while 54.8% disposed of them in the trash and 31.8% flushed them down the toilet. Conclusions: it is concluded that the respondents demonstrated a low level of knowledge about the disposal of unused and expired medications.
