The spread and development of financial technology, also known as “fintech“, has experienced an accelerated growth. Previous studies in developing countries have shown the relationship between fintech integration and bank interest rates. This paper seeks to analyse the impact of fintech on bank interest rates, with the hypothesis that this impact generates a negative effect. This perspective is based on the idea that the growing competition generated by fintech will encourage traditional financial institutions to adjust their interest margins in order to maintain their position in the market. To take advantage of the positive aspects of fintech in the Peruvian economy, a number of recommendations are proposed to maximise the observed effects. Fintech have a promising horizon full of possibilities, and by adopting appropriate strategic approaches and regulations, the benefits for both users and the stability of the financial system can be optimised.
