The research project aims to determine the market, technological, economic, financial and social viability for the installation of a Pima IPA 59 hydroponic cotton production plant. During the analysis of the market study, it was observed that the apparent domestic demand decreased since 2014 and fell in 2016 due to the rust fungus, but is currently recovering since 2018. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCED) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), cotton consumption is expected to increase. The factor ranking method was applied to determine the optimal location; as a result, the western zone (Ventanilla and Callao) within the Lima region was chosen. In order to define the optimal plant size, market restrictions, productive resources, technology and equilibrium point were analyzed. It was observed that the limit was defined by the market, with a value of 324,000 kg of hydroponic cotton. Regarding the engineering of the product, the characteristics of the product, the production process and the existing technology were written. Likewise, the raw material and input requirements to comply with the production program were detailed. In addition, the capacity of the plant was determined and the necessary physical spaces were calculated using the Guerchet method (approximately 10,000 m2). The steps for the start-up, the personnel requirements and their respective functions were also defined. Finally, the project investment was calculated. With this data, the flows of economic and financial funds were prepared and the viability of the project was confirmed. The recovery period is approximately 4 years and 11 days economically.
