The removable prosthesis is a dental treatment, which seeks to replace missing teeth and absent bone structures in partial or total edentulous patients, these devices are made with acrylic resin thermocurate (polymethylmethacrylate). Within the biofilm the Candida species, especially C.albicans, is present in 25% to 50% within the oral cavity of healthy people including children and adults, this percentage increases by 60% to 100% in patients with removable prosthses . OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to compare the in vitro antifungal effect of two commercial removable denture disinfectant products on C.albicans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 30 samples of thermopolymerizable acrylic resin were made, using wax patterns with the same dimensions (15mm x 15mm x 4mm) were subjected to a polishing system, simulating that of the complete prosthesis the samples were sterilized in autoclave (121 ° C x 60mm) were subsequently contaminated with strains of C.albicans. After the contamination were exposed to disinfecting agents effervescent sideburns product A (corega taps) product B (fittydent) for 1 hour and 8 hours. Smears of the disinfected resins were made, they were seeded in Petri dishes, results were observed at 24 hours to verify the removal or not of the microorganisms. RESULTS: It was observed that the two products have different effects when applied, being more effective in their anti-fungal effect Corega Tabs compared to Fittydent, however, after eight hours of application both achieve their efficiency in the growth of C.albicans.
