In the present work, the design of a batch process was carried out for the production of cubes of cellulose fibers with an edge of 40 cm (19.84 kg) on an industrial scale from discarded high-grade paper. This process is made up of the following stages: paper shredding, water heating, pulp preparation, pressing and forced convection drying of the cube. The operating conditions for each stage of the process were determined from the experimental studies. In this way, tests were carried out to prepare the cellulose pulp and later smallscale tests to evaluate the influence of the variables: concentration of the solvent (acetic acid), drying temperature and length of the product's edge on the mechanical properties such as the elastic compression (tension and deformation in elastic limit) and in the drying kinetics (critical humidity and drying time), since it is the most significant stage in terms of time and costs. The best results (shorter drying time, and higher deformation and yield stress) were observed using water in the preparation of the pulp, a dissolution ratio of 0.08 g of shredded paper per 1 ml of water, and a temperature of 80 °C in the natural convection drying stage in an oven. In the batch process on an industrial scale, the pulp preparation stage using an anchor agitator, and drying using a tunnel-type convective tray dryer were selected as central operations. The material balance per batch or cube was also carried out; thus determining that, to produce a unit of final product, 19.97 kg of highgrade paper and 0.14 m3 of drinking water must be processed. Based on this and the modeling of the phenomena of heat transfer, mass and momentum of the systems found in each stage, the process equipment was designed and selected. An annual production of 1872 units was projected, which is equivalent to 11% of the current demand for the product to be replaced. In this way, the operation times and energy consumption for each stage of the process were obtained, concluding that the process annually consumes 654.2 MWh of natural gas combustion energy and 73.4 MWh of electrical energy. Finally, based on the economic analysis of the process (CAPEX and OPEX of $157,316 and $75,792), it was concluded that, in order to obtain the economic viability of the process and meet the expectations of the investor, the minimum price at which the product could be marketed is $52, which is 4% higher than the price of the product to be replaced in the Peruvian market.
