In this thesis, a technical, environmental, and economic analysis of an anaerobic digestion plant is carried out from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste in Alto Selva Alegre, province and department of Arequipa. This plant is presented as an alternative for the treatment of solid waste compared to the final disposal that takes place in the current disposal site Quebrada Honda. First, the current situation of solid waste management and the availability of raw material were evaluated. Then, the design of the plant was carried out, detailing its dimensioning and energy production. Subsequently, the best location for the plant was selected and the reduction of emissions by the project was quantified. Finally, an economic evaluation of the project was carried out considering two additional incomes besides the sale of energy: sell of Verified Carbon Units and payment for the solid waste treatment service. The results show that, between 2027 and 2041, the energy potential of the biogas generated is 135,288 MWh. To use the whole organic wastes, an anaerobic digestion plant with an installed power of 500 kW is proposed, with a plant factor of 80% and an investment of 2,180 MUSD. The plant requires 6,600 m2 of area in the Alto Selva Alegre District. Finally, the entry of this plant is proposed through a new auction with Renewable Energy Resources at an energy cost of 72.14 USD/MWh, with the additional income of waste treatment.
