Introduction: Venous thromboembolism includes deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism. Deep vein thrombosis is a very common disease, with the lower limbs being the most frequent site of presentation, and whose most serious and most frequent complication is pulmonary embolism, which can cause death if it is not diagnosed and treated adequately. Method: An analytical study of a correlational, observational, cross-sectional type was carried out, 107 medical records of hospitalized patients with deep vein thrombosis, treated at the Regional Hospital of Cusco in the period 2018-2022, were reviewed. Results: Of the sample (N=107), 55% (n=59) were male and 45% (n=48) were female; 18% (n=19) presented a complication, with 10% (n=11) presenting PTS and 8% (n=8) PE, in relation to the risk factors associated with DVT complications, 16% ( n=17) autoimmune or inflammatory disease (p=0.001), 7% (n=7) presented malignancy (p=0.002), 2% (n=2) contraceptive use (p=0.000) and 2% (n =2) use of central venous catheter or pacemaker (p=0.000). Conclusions: In the age group from 30 to 59 years and 60 years and over, the risk factor associated with complications is the presence of a history of DVT; in PTS, being overweight is the risk factor associated with this complication, and in PTE it is malignant neoplasm; in men in PTS obesity is the risk factor associated with this complication, while for PE it is malignant neoplasm; in TPS, the most frequent thrombus location found is the proximal.
