The present study focused its aims at knowledge of efficacy on applying an experimental programme based on the use of virtual academic fora for the development of argumentative competency of public university students. The study sample consisted of 22 students belonging to the fifth semester of the Professional School of History and Geography of the Social Sciences and Education Faculty. The Programme named, “Tell me this by argumenting it “ was applied to this sample. It was made up of the participation in 10 sessions of virtual academic fora concerned with contents of the subject of ecology. Both data from the pre-test and post-test administered to the 22 subjects of study and data from other intervening variables such as intelligence, social skills and previous knowledge were obtained. This research formulated three specific hypotheses from which two have been confirmed, they are referred to both the effectivity of the programme in the significant improvement of the argumentative competency expressed in its dimensions: structure of the argumentative text and kinds of argumentative texts, and the positive incidence of the participation level in the virtual academic fora in the improvement of the argumentative competency.
