The present research entitled: “SELF-CARE OF VASCULAR ACCESS IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS AT THE ADOLFO GUEVARA VELASCO ESSALUD NATIONAL HOSPITAL, CUSCO 2018”, aimed to: describe the characteristics of self-care of vascular access in patients undergoing hemodialysis at the National Hospital Adolfo Guevara Velasco EsSalud, Cusco 2018. A methodological design was applied: descriptive and transversal. Reaching the results: 48.1% of patients were from 40 to 59 years old, 57.4% were male; 33.3% with a higher technical education degree and university superior respectively, 50% were married, 33.3% had kidney failure due to diabetic nephropathy, 53.7% had central venous catheter and 46.3% arteriovenous fistula. Regarding the self-care of vascular accesses, in the dimension: general treatment care, 100% always attend hemodialysis, 81.5% always attend medical controls, 75.9% always comply with pharmacological treatment. In the dimension: Hygienic care, 33.3% have dirty hands, 61.1% have dirty and long nails, 20.4% go with dirty clothes. In the dimension: arteriovenous fistula preventive care, 83.4% use water and soap for fistula hygiene, 58.3% sometimes perform compressions with a rubber ball, 37.5% sometimes lift weight with the arm of the fistula, 79.2% always prevents compressions in the area of the fistula, 58.3% verifies the vibration of the fistula daily. In the dimension: preventive care of central venous catheter, 46.7% use a plastic bag to cover the catheter when showering, 86.7% never manipulate the catheter, 70% make pressure and go immediately to the hemodialysis unit when the catheter it breaks or leaves its place.
